Mission:
“Fannin Children’s Assessment Shelter is a
community-supported transitional center to provide a safe haven for children in
North Georgia, to facilitate their growth, rekindle their hope, and to provide a
healthy environment to empower the children to overcome challenges.”
Purpose:
The Fannin Children’s Assessment Shelter is a
short-term assessment facility, a place where children will be placed in order
to determine the most appropriate long-term placement. Also to be provided
are child advocacy services through the Appalachian Children’s Center –
multi-disciplinary teams to create a child-friendly approach to alleged child
sexual and severe physical abuse cases, with a collaborative approach to
intervention, treatment, prosecution, community education, and awareness in the
prevention of child abuse and neglect. The children who will be served by
Open Arms will be placed in a safe, secure, stable environment which will begin
the healing process with the transition into a long-term arrangement with their
own parents or family members or with foster parents.
